A friend of the main character has lost seven notebooks but can't retrieve them because he's too busy "training." So, he asks the main character to go to the local school and collect them for him. When the player first arrives, they meet one of the teachers, Baldi, who presents simple math problems as puzzles each time a notebook is opened (three questions per notebook). He promises a reward if all the questions are answered correctly.
However, Baldi has a short temper. After the player encounters an impossible question, Baldi becomes enraged and begins chasing them through the school for getting it wrong. From there, the player must keep searching for the remaining notebooks while avoiding other students and various strange challenges.
If the player keeps answering questions incorrectly, they'll face the terrifying wrath of this math-obsessed instructor. That’s when the real nightmare begins.
